Big companies will always protect their own interests and there is little a small business can do if they are dependent on a single source of revenue / supplier.  So I always look for new vendors for purchases, if  the new vendor is good, I can get a better price and a backup.

So Google is stopping its feed for domains. They seem to have been working on this for some time, I have some parked domains . Based on the replies I have got, the parking company seems to have been monitoring conversions very closely, saying that some domains which earn 5$ + per month won’t continue making money.

The good thing about domains is that you can pay only for a years renewal at a time, so you do not loose much money (if you choose your domains correctly, you make the registration fees in one month itself with little effort). I have also been experimenting with a lot of other programs, so that I earn atleast some thing from every visitor to the website. So even if the domain is blacklisted by Google, you can make money using CPM programs.

Another company losing their Adsense feed. When you start earning x amount from one company , it is better to diversify your revenue sources.

You may not earn much initially for the effort you put in (my first payments are usually $2 – $30). You may also lose some money but once you find the formula for what works, you can scale things very quickly.

I have diversified my revenues to some extent, by this year end Adsense should hopefully be a small part of my total revenues.  It is always better to work with smaller companies, you are likely to get much better support and they value your business more.

I have spent a lot of time studying the domain industry and find that most revenues seem to be from parking or sales. Parking revenues are from only a few sources and a policy change can adversely affect you.

Last year, I spent a lot of time experimenting to find non-Google, non-parking revenue sources and was able to diversify to some extent  (Yahoo is not an option if  you are non-US) . If you are not a big company, there are many disadvantages but there are a few advantages also.
 

There so many stories about social networking websites, but I feel it will not take off in a big way as there is no use for the “friends” you make, many profiles are fake anyway. For teenagers and students, they are a good way to spend time, but they really do not serve any purpose. They are just a fad, which will fade away after some time

Social networking sites are very resource intensive and difficult to monetise. I had a fairly busy forum, but it was not worth the effort, since maintenance and taking backups is very time consuming. So now I try to reduce activity on the forum to a minimum, page views are not important for me, my time and revenues are.

 There are many disadvantages of not knowing anything about the internet initially, you start later , you learn everyone from scratch . But the big advantage is that you can focus on what you feel will work, instead of bothering about short term trends. 

Another example of how a single large player can make the rules and everyone complies. Most advertisers flock to Google because they have the fastest search engine, and it seems unlikely that anyone else to challenge their position. Though domain tasters may continue to check for traffic, I suppose the number of tasted domains will decrease drastically.
