Google Domain parking changes
So Google is stopping its feed for domains. They seem to have been working on this for some time, I have some parked domains . Based on the replies I have got, the parking company seems to have been monitoring conversions very closely, saying that some domains which earn 5$ + per month won’t continue making money.
The good thing about domains is that you can pay only for a years renewal at a time, so you do not loose much money (if you choose your domains correctly, you make the registration fees in one month itself with little effort). I have also been experimenting with a lot of other programs, so that I earn atleast some thing from every visitor to the website. So even if the domain is blacklisted by Google, you can make money using CPM programs.
Domain tasting will end
There seems to have been a reduction in domain tasting over the past few days. Most of the tasting is now done on a small scale.
Dynadot was offering free domain tasting with bulk accounts, they stopped all deletions of domains for some time. Their customers started protesting, so they re introduced it again, but a fee has to be paid. Moniker has also increased the fee for tasting. With other registrars, the deletion fees are much higher, so domain tasting is not feasible.
There seems to be a reduction in domains tasted at least for now.
Factors which determine your CPM rates
Interesting post on CPM rates. I don’t use PPC programs on any on my new websites, I have been experimenting with the various CPM / CPA networks. Rates are low, but at least you get paid some thing for every visitor to your websites.
Domain Embarking loses Adsense feed
Another company losing their Adsense feed. When you start earning x amount from one company , it is better to diversify your revenue sources.
You may not earn much initially for the effort you put in (my first payments are usually $2 – $30). You may also lose some money but once you find the formula for what works, you can scale things very quickly.
Ben, Stalker from Bangalore
Very entertaining blog post. In an effort to sound international, Chinese and Indian companies use foreign names. This does not fool anyone, and I would always prefer to speak to some one with unpronounceable real name , instead of a fake short name.
Charging by the Byte to Curb Internet Traffic
One of the reasons I think online video and gaming will soon down. Anyone who has done any practical engineering, knows that every thing has finite limits and videos/ gaming take up a lot of resources.
Google Still Unsure How To Make Money With YouTube : Entertaining thread from Webmasterworld
Ad rates for big websites decline . The ad rates for big websites have declined over a period of one year, while the rates for small websites have marginally increased.
Compared to the website traffic figures quoted in the above report, my websites are micro and micro micro. But the ad rates I get are 10 to 1000 times higher, since my traffic converts well. Few ad networks (especially those in India , where “good looking” websites are important, not the content of the website) realize this. So till then, one company will continue to dominate internet advertising.
I got this email from one of the many hosting companies I use
“We have reached the size that no matter how trustworthy our employees are it’s only a matter of time before we hire the wrong person that’s going to attempt to do something evil.”
It is good to know that the hosting company recognizes this and is taking steps to prevent future problems. Compared to off line companies, it is very easy for an employee of an internet / software company to sabotage an online business. Even if your product is good and prices competitive, if your employees harass your customers or provide poor customer service, you will lose business.
UTV Completes Acquisition Of 76 Percent Stake In IT Nation For Rs. 15 Crores
The websites include Channeltimes, CXOtoday, Enterpriser.in and Techtree.com . Some of these websites are quite popular, I am surprised they were sold so cheap. I suppose it finally depends on the net profit (or loss), not traffic or website design.
I wonder if there is any way one can find out if such websites are for sale, I would be very interested.
3 months back , some one wanted my *om.in domain, today I got a follow up mail
“Need www.*om.in — pls give me you quotation
Hi *
did you thought about the plan for giving me *om.in
pls feel free to quote me”
Do they think I will ever consider such an inquiry? I am not interested in selling the domain, and I am “freely quoting” the sender of the mail.
